The RAID array has collapsed - Case 71202
5*72.8GB HP SCSI model MAW3073NC ULTRA320 in RAID5 array.
Symptoms: RAID 5 collapsed.
Causes: Drives 0 and 3 have failed.
Background: The array got degraded without a notice.
Resolution: Despite the fact that RAID5 has a 1-drive fault tolerance, in this case two drives have failed, so the entire array collapsed. This incident happened without the server administrator to take notice.
Drives 0 and 3 developed bad sectors.
All drives have been imaged to their maximum extent. A virtual RAID has been created with the drive images. Special attention has been paid to the RAID parameters, since the HP arrays always use delay feature, while sometimes the offset is at 2088.
Percentage or recovery: 100%.
