Symptoms: The drive doesn't ID, while at the same time it produces healthy sounds and no clicks of death.
Resolution: This is the famous BSY BUG problem, often found in drives of this family (Barracuda 7200.11). It occured early in the previous decade and it was the reason for millions of drive's withdrawals from the manufacturer.

Causes: Drive Impact
History: The drive's owner told us that the drive has suffered a fall to the floor.
Resolution: The drive had to have its heads replaced inside the Clean Room.

The drive doesn't ID - Case Study 51201
Hard Drive WD 500GB 2.5" model WD5000BMVV
Symptoms: The drive produces clicks of death.
Causes: Drive fall, impact.
Background: The drive suffered a fall during operation. Then, it was opened in an uncontrolled environment and was butchered internally. Many of its internal components were modified.
Resolution: We cleaned the contaminated surfaces and proceeded to image the good areas first.

The MicroSD doesn't ID - Job Number 62333
Kingston XC1 128GB MicroSD Card
Symptoms: The card doesn't ID
Causes: Bad Controller quality.
Background: The card stopped working unexpectedly.
Resolution: We had to scratch the back side of the card, to reveal it's connection map and find the pinout. It is a standard 6x4 layout with a 4568_4632 geometry. Despite the fact that the layout looks like a 7x4, the 3 pads to the right are not being used. This is an extremely complex case, that ended well.
